The newest official Calendar gadget is a vast improvement, in that it allows you to hide the monthly calendar. So I recommend installing that:

I use mobile gCal in iGoogle (better than the official calendar gadget - I just put it inside an iframe gadget). This cuts down on the whitespace so I can see as much as possible without scrolling.
